Upper Mustang Trek

The Upper Mustang Trek takes you into the remote and restricted region of Mustang, often referred to as the “Last Forbidden Kingdom” of Nepal. This trek offers a unique cultural experience, as it was once a kingdom of its own and retains strong Tibetan influences in its language, architecture, and traditions. The trail leads through arid landscapes, high deserts, and dramatic cliffs, with stunning views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. Highlights include exploring the ancient walled city of Lo Manthang, visiting Buddhist monasteries, and experiencing the unique Mustang culture. The trek is an unforgettable blend of natural beauty, history, and spiritual heritage.

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu
– Arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu.
– Transfer to hotel.
– Overnight in Kathmandu.
Day 2: Kathmandu Sightseeing
– Full-day sightseeing tour of Kathmandu, visiting sites such as Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath, and Boudhanath.
– Overnight in Kathmandu.
Day 3: Fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara
– Fly to Pokhara (30-minute flight).
– Rest and explore Pokhara.
– Overnight in Pokhara.
Day 4: Fly from Pokhara to Jomsom and Trek to Kagbeni (2,800m)
– Early morning flight to Jomsom (20-minute flight).
– Trek to Kagbeni, passing through the Kali Gandaki River valley.
– Trekking time: 3-4 hours.
– Overnight in Kagbeni.
Day 5: Trek from Kagbeni to Chele (3,050m)
– Trek through the valley, passing through villages and dry landscapes.
– Trekking time: 5-6 hours.
– Overnight in Chele.
Day 6: Trek from Chele to Syanbochen (3,475m)
– Continue through narrow gorges and high desert landscapes.
– Trekking time: 5-6 hours.
– Overnight in Syanbochen.
Day 7: Trek from Syanbochen to Ghami (3,520m)
– Pass through the scenic landscape, crossing bridges and climbing to the village of Ghami.
– Trekking time: 5-6 hours.
– Overnight in Ghami.
Day 8: Trek from Ghami to Lo Manthang (3,730m)
– Trek to Lo Manthang, the capital of Upper Mustang, with its Tibetan-influenced culture and architecture.
– Trekking time: 5-6 hours.
– Overnight in Lo Manthang.
Day 9: Exploration Day in Lo Manthang
– Full-day exploration of Lo Manthang, visiting its monasteries, caves, and the walled city.
– Overnight in Lo Manthang.
Day 10: Trek from Lo Manthang to Dhakmar (3,810m)
– Descend back through stunning landscapes and villages.
– Trekking time: 5-6 hours.
– Overnight in Dhakmar.
Day 11: Trek from Dhakmar to Kagbeni
– Continue retracing the route through the Mustang region.
– Trekking time: 6-7 hours.
– Overnight in Kagbeni.
Day 12: Fly back to Pokhara and Kathmandu
– Fly from Jomsom to Pokhara, then fly to Kathmandu.
– Overnight in Kathmandu.
